        Well now that humans have visited the moon we can say with certainty that it is not made of cheese…

        The simple answer is that the moon is really just a big lump of rock. Pictures of the moon can tell us that there was once lava underneath the surface, and volcanoes spewing out molten rock that has now cooled and hardened. Some of the rock on the moon is really similar to rocks here on earth, but there is also a lot of rock on the moon that is nothing like our rock on Earth! There are also minerals on the moon that are not found on Earth!
